One of the great things about working at Wilderness Motorhomes is that we often get to hit the road and test out our camper vans. It is a great way to familiarise ourselves with what customers themselves experience.
I love hitting the road and not really knowing where our journey will end up!
We had an amazing time over Labour Weekend with 4 of us at Lake Tekapo in the fabulous Summit 5
. My friends hadn't really travelled in a motorhome before and they found the smallest things amazing - like being able to have a BBQ wherever we wanted.
The wonderful thing about travelling in these vans is no matter how big they are, they are so easy to drive. The Summit is the highest on the fleet but the NZ roads easily accommodate for it and it is so easy to drive.
The first night we camped we ended up right next to a farm and woke up to find cows staring straight at us.
One spot you simply have to visit when you travel the South Island is Lake Pukaki. A lot of customers I speak with find that Lake Pukaki is not really well talked-about. They are aware of Lake Tekapo and probably get too scared to try and pronounce Pukaki (poo-kack-key), so they leave it off. Pukaki is amazing because it has so many areas to freedom camp around and also to get a bonfire cranking!
On the second afternoon, we found a hidden gem about 500m from other campers, nestled in the trees. It was a prime spot to collect some firewood as there was already rocks built up where other campers had been. Again, we got the BBQ out and toasted some marshmallows on the fire. Bliss!
