Are there any roads that Wilderness motorhomes can't travel on?

No. At Wilderness, we want you to be able to get into the backcountry to explore the real New Zealand. We don’t have any specific road restrictions or a blacklist of roads that our insurance doesn't cover.

Having said that, there are some roads in New Zealand that large vehicles like motorhomes shouldn’t travel on — such as Skippers Road near Queenstown.

You’ll be covered by our standard insurance on conservation campsite access roads and most other named roads. You won’t be covered if you drive:

  • On a beach
  • Through a river or in saltwater
  • Where there’s signage indicating that the road isn’t suitable for larger vehicles like motorhomes
  • On a road that’s in such poor condition that it causes damage to the motorhome.
