While travelling New Zealand’s scenic highways, you’ll come across some narrow, winding roads, and even a few unpaved.
If you’re an experienced motorhome driver, these more challenging roads may not be a big deal. But if you’re new to motorhome touring, New Zealand’s roads are something to take into account.
Our Wilderness fleet includes a variety of sizes and styles. But ultimately, they’re all designed to drive like a car and handle most New Zealand roads with ease.
All the motorhomes in our fleet are right-hand drive so the steering wheel is on the right side. New Zealand roads are set up for driving on the left hand side. If you’re not familiar with driving on the left, we recommend hiring a smaller motorhome for your first Kiwi holiday.

Your Sleeping Set Up
By choosing to hire a Wilderness motorhome, you’ll stay comfortable even while venturing outside your comfort zone.
Some of the most common questions (and compliments) we receive from guests are about the beds in our motorhomes. They all feature luxurious memory foam mattresses for your comfort — and they all come permanently made-up for your convenience.
Your epic New Zealand road trip will be even more enjoyable with restful sleeps in your Wilderness motorhome.
Bringing along five or more people? We recommend hiring a second motorhome so that everyone has enough space. Get in touch with our reservations team about a group booking.

We recommend booking your preferred motorhome at the same time you book your flights — so you know you’re getting the one you really want.
How do you plan to spend your days in New Zealand?
We’ll be out and about often so daytime facilities like the kitchen and lounge aren’t a huge concern.
