Booking With Us

  1. Q: Is there a minimum age for hiring a Wilderness motorhome?
    A: Yes, it's 21 years. Our insurance covers 21 years and older.
  2. Q: What is included in my rental?
    A: Your rental includes comprehensive insurance (excess/deductible applies), extra drivers, airport or airport hotel transfers at start and end of hire, touring atlas, full gas bottle (needs to be returned full), cleaning, 24-hour breakdown service, linen, bedding, kitchen equipment including a full complement of quality utensils, crockery, glasses, pots and pans. In fact we supply everything AND the kitchen sink.
  3. Q: Can I pay by debit card, AMEX or bank transfer?
    A: We accept VISA, Mastercard, and American Express credit cards as well as debit cards. Alternatively, you can arrange for your payment to be transferred to our bank account. If you wish to pay by bank transfer, please contact us for account details. Please note that credit card and debit card payments as well as bank transfers will incur bank fees.
  4. Q: Do we have to pay extra for additional drivers?
    A: No. Extra driver fees are included in our daily hire rate. Anyone who drives the camper needs to be recorded on the rental agreement in order to be covered by our insurance policy. You can add the name and driver licence details of any additional drivers before your pick-up or on the collection day.
  5. Q: Do all the drivers have to be there when we pick up the motorhome?
    A: Yes we need all drivers at the base when you collect the vehicle.
  6. Q: What travel documents will I need?
    A: We need you to bring your credit card as well as your driver's licence with you. If you would like to name additional drivers, we will need to see their original licences as well.
  7. Q: Do I need a special licence to drive a Wilderness motorhome?
    A: No. Visitors with a current driver's licence for a vehicle of the same class as our campervans from their home country or an International Driving Permit (IDP) can legally drive in New Zealand. If you plan to use a foreign licence that is not in English, you will need an English translation or an IDP. Please click here for a list of translators. Licences are valid for one year from the date you enter New Zealand.
  8. Q: What percentage of customers take insurance? Do I have to decide now or can I decide when I pick up?
    A: On average, one in three vehicles returns from its hire with some sort of damage. Windscreen and tyre damage is especially common in New Zealand as well as loose gravel, even on main roads. Around 85-90% of our customers decide to add our insurance packages to their booking to give them the peace of mind knowing that they are covered in the unfortunate event of damage to the vehicle.
  9. Q: What will it cost me if I have an accident?
    A: Up to NZ$7500 per incident if you have not purchased our additional insurance coverage, which will limit your excess or even waive it completely . Click here to take the mystery out of rental vehicle insurance and to have a look at the options available.
  10. Q: How much is the diesel road user charge?
    A: Our Road User Charge Recovery Fee is based on actual kilometres travelled in your campervan, so you only pay for what you use. You can find out more about Road User Charges here. If you take out full cover insurance, your Road User Charge Recovery Fee is included.
  11. Q: Do you provide airport transfers?
    A: Yes, we go the extra mile. We provide complimentary transfers from Auckland and Christchurch airports or your airport hotel to our base at the start and end of your trip.
  12. Q: Will the bond be deducted from my credit card?
    A: No. We are one of the few motorhome companies who don't take a cash bond or freeze funds on your credit card. Only in the unfortunate case of an incident will the bond be deducted from your credit card. See our terms and conditions.
  13. Q: Does the time of day I pick up or drop off affect the price?
    A: The day the motorhome is returned is counted as a full day regardless of return time. We cannot run our business on a 24-hour system like rental car companies do. You pay for the pick-up date as well as the drop-off date in full irrespective of return time because we cannot rent the vehicles out the same day. They need to be maintained, checked and cleaned before the next customer takes the vehicle on. If your intended travel dates cross two different rate periods, your rental will be based on the number of days of hire in each period.
  14. Q: When will I need to pay for my campervan hire?
    A: A deposit of 30% is required to secure your booking. The remaining balance is due 42 days before your adventure commences. We will send you a reminder when you final payment is due.

You can speed up your motorhome pick up process by logging on to my booking page and entering your details before you arrive. As soon as you have arranged your flights into Auckland or Christchurch, enter your pick up details so we can arrange your free transfer to our base.

  • Unlike other motorhome vendors, we won’t deduct a bond from your credit card at pick up if you decide not to take our insurance
