The chassis has been specially designed for motorhome conversion so the body is wider than van conversions and the ride is much more comfortable. It's packed with clever European design features like the swivelling pilot seats, memory foam mattress, loads of cupboards and drawers, and a spacious bathroom that converts to a drying room.
European Design Benchmark
As soon as you set foot inside the Escape 2, you’ll notice the difference. The pilot seats in the front cab rotate to give you additional seating around the dining table, the windows are tinted and double-glazed for added warmth, and the lighting is all top-of-the-line LED. Not only does the sofa look more comfortable than standard seating in a rental motorhome - it is more comfortable. That’s because the lounge doesn’t have to double as a bedroom so the sofa is designed for seating comfort – not dual purpose seating and sleeping.
Dedicated Bedroom Space
It’s true, the Escape 2 is more spacious and more comfortable than most rental motorhomes on NZ roads. But it’s actually the bedroom that puts it in a class of its own. For too long, hirers have had to settle for sleeping on a sofa bed. In a traditional campervan, the sofa cushions need to be wedged between the van walls and the linen applied each time the hirer is ready to sleep. That’s the compromise of sleeping in a dual purpose lounge/bedroom. The Escape 2 breaks with tradition. The dedicated bedroom has a permanent queen sized ‘island’ bed so you get to sleep on a super comfortable thick cold foam mattress. Because the bed is permanently made up, you can sneak off for a snooze anytime and your bed buddy can join you without having to climb over you. Who would have thought this was possible in a rental motorhome?
Dry and Wet Bathroom
The innovative bathroom layout in the Escape 2 allows the toilet to stay dry when shower is being used. Furthermore, you can use the spacious bathroom to dry your towels and clothes instead of your living area. Wilderness pioneered the concept of a bathroom that converts to a drying room in the Base Jumper 2. Now all its new generation fleet incorporate the concept. Originally intended for drying clothes in the winter, the Wilderness drying room has become equally important to summer travelers who don’t want to use their living space as a laundry or waste their precious vacation time waiting for washing to dry on the outside line.
Unlike most motorhomes, the Escape is as comfortable in winter as it is in summer. The full insulation, including double-glazed windows, plus the central gas and electric heating will keep you as warm as toast when the weather gets cooler. The centrally heated bathroom can be used as a drying room so there’s no need to hang your wet underclothes from the wing mirrors.
A Driving Pleasure
The Escape 2 is built on the powerful Fiat Ducato 2.3L turbo diesel cab and chassis – the only vehicle specifically designed for campervan conversion. The 320N of torque will give you all the power you need to tackle any mountain pass and the tiptronic automatic transmission gives you the option of shifting gears yourself or leaving that job to the engine. The cab has more room, more visibility, better ergonomics and functionality, more drawers and storage compartments, more shelves, more comfortable seats for driver and passengers, and less noise than motorhomes built on vehicles other than Fiat. So sit back, flick on the cruise control and enjoy your escape into the wilderness.
Another departure from the standard two berth campervan spec, is the storage capacity. The Escape 2 not only comes with generous living room cupboards but the rear under bed storage compartment aka garage boasts both internal and exterior access.
