An easy, relaxing group holiday awaits in the Double for 4 — which features two comfortable double beds.
Highlights |
The Double for 4 is the equal-longest motorhome in our fleet at 7.4 metres. At such a length, this recreational vehicle can support two permanent made up double beds, which are:
Prepare to say goodbye to nighttime acrobatics because the rear island bed has easy access from both sides. You won’t have to climb over each other to get a peaceful night's sleep.
See our comparative motorhomes table to match up the Double for 4 against our other models.
We had the Double for 4 for three weeks over April and May, and had a ball touring the North Island — clocking up 2,800km.
The motorhome exceeded our expectations. It's extremely well-appointed with a decent-sized fridge freezer, gas cooktop with an oven and a grill that all worked great.
One of the things we were looking for was a permanent bed. The island at the rear suited us just fine. Swivelling captain's chairs added to our comfortable travel and living.
The bathroom door can close off the rear making a bedroom suite with the shower on one side and bathroom with toilet on the other side. Underfloor ducted heating is excellent when needed.
The huge storage boot underneath at the rear held all our luggage plus two e-scooters, folding chairs and a barbecue easily. Being over 7m long, the motorhome isn’t a small machine but drives really well and isn't hard to find parking for in most places. We took advantage of freedom camping for all but four nights — ranging from beachside to riverside to lakeside.
NZ is such a beautiful country we can't wait for the same time next year when we plan on four weeks from Christchurch. Wilderness impressed us with their service and the Double for 4 is great. Well done and it’s great to support NZ-owned businesses.

If you decide to hire the Double for 4, you’ll immediately notice how spacious it is. Bring along your family or best friends and you’ll feel like there’s plenty of space for everyone to get the most out of a road trip.
Room is created in the lounge with the drop down bed tucking away into the ceiling when it’s not in use. Whether you unwind on the comfy seating arrangement or unleash your inner chef in the kitchen, the space is ready for however you want to use it.
We hired the Double for 4 to give us extra space on our two week tour of the South Island, and it didn’t disappoint. The van was a dream to drive — and handled everything on our 2,600km adventure.
The living space was well laid out with a large fridge, which meant shopping trips could be minimised. The bed was comfortable, the extra towels supplied were useful and the toilet and shower equipment was more than adequate.
I think compared to other vendors, Wilderness was really good value for money. We did have one issue while away, but this was dealt with on the run — and very quickly by Hayden from Eco Plumbing in Wanaka.
All in all, a great holiday with a different, fantastic view to wake up to almost every day.

You can close off the rear bedroom area in the Double for 4 for some rest time and additional privacy. This is especially appealing if you:
The handy dividing wall makes it possible for one or two of your travel party to take a break and the others to prepare dinner or just enjoy the living room space.
The Double for 4 also comes with a separate shower and toilet — meaning both can be used at the same time. It’s a valuable feature if you want to spend consecutive nights freedom camping on your motorhome adventure.
Immaculate and amazing! We travelled from November to December for three weeks. Our experience with Wilderness was incredible — from the moment we walked into their Christchurch office, we were greeted by everyone.
The staff were so helpful and even provided food suggestions along the way! We rented a Double for 4 and were blown away by how clean it was. It genuinely felt like we were the only customers to have ever used it. There was ample storage, the fridge was large and all amenities worked amazingly. The shower was super handy!
The team ran us through everything and there was a hotline to call for help. We had no issues with our vehicle except for the smell of the grey water after a few days, which was fixed with septic cleaner. Apart from that, it was incredibly fuel efficient and a very sturdy vehicle.
We drove around the South Island clockwise, even all the way up to Wharariki Beach — and from Wellington to Auckland, to drop it off. Wilderness even organised our ferry tickets for us.
The bed was comfortable and there was ample storage inside for clothes — we used packing cubes. We had heaps of space for food, a perfect sitting area and a kettle for the stove provided.
We felt like we were in our own little home! The motorhome was very snazzy and made our trip feel even more luxurious!!! The vehicle is incredibly easy and smooth to drive, and there’s a reversing camera too.
We would rate Wilderness 20/10 if we could — only good things to say!!!

A group vacation should be easy, relaxing and comfortable for all parties. The Double for 4 was designed and built with this in mind — so you can fully enjoy spending time with your close friends or family.
Heading off-the-grid for some freedom camping will best demonstrate these sharing attributes with a spacious 127L of fridge and 29L of freezer room available.
Our experience with Wilderness Motorhomes has been superb — from our very first contact, on our two week holiday, and finally handing back the motorhome.
The quality of both the service from the staff and the motorhome itself was exceptional. The contact with the company prior to picking up the motorhome was excellent. We were given a very comprehensive tour of the motorhome by the same member of staff who picked us up from our hotel, Autumn.
It all felt very personal and not rushed. The motorhome, a Double for 4, was lovely — it was very roomy for three adults, had lots of storage space and was easy to drive.
We were very sorry to hand the motorhome back and would definitely choose Wilderness Motorhomes again. We recommend them without hesitation. A huge thank you to all the Wilderness team.
